- Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan said Ireland wants to opt into new EU rules that could allow failed asylum seekers to be sent to so-called “return hubs” outside the European Union.

- A woman who was born in a mother and baby home in Cork where hundreds of babies died said survivors are prepared to chain themselves to diggers to prevent the building of apartments at the site.

- A final decision on the new flat fee for criminal legal aid solicitors was expected to be made today, as talks continue over the weekend following a week of significant disruption across the courts system.

#HEATWAVE: The World Health Organization said over 1,300 excess deaths have been recorded in Europe since 21 June in connection with the record-breaking heatwave roasting much of the continent.
