Rhythm Heaven Groove moves and shakes onto Switch in July

Nintendo has confirmed that Rhythm Heaven Groove will be launching for Nintendo Switch on 2nd July, bringing its musical minigame shenanigans to the hybrid consoles.

They’ve also shared a new gameplay mini preview, showing off a kitchen-themed game with ‘Slice N Dice Kitchen’.

This is the first new game since Rhythm Heaven Megamix in 2015 (which was a bit of a best of collection for 3DS), with Rhythm Heaven Groove continuing the series’ traditional partnerships with Nintendo and TNX co-developing the game.

The gameplay is a barmy riff on the rhythm action genre, dropping you into a variety of scenarios and asking you to press buttons in time with the beat and the action on screen. Instead of having blocks or buttons gradually descending down the screen, a la Guitar Hero or Beat Sabre, you have to pick out the timing from what’s happening, so it could be catching incoming fruit and veg, skipping to a rope, jumping through a hoop at the end of a long line of characters, and plenty more. In a lot of ways, it’s a musical cousin to the WarioWare series for Nintendo.
