M.T. Vasudevan Nair wrote some of the finest pieces of literature in Malayalam and revolutionised the art of screenplay

M.T. Vasudevan, popularly known as MT, was widely regarded as the presiding deity of Malayalam literature up until his demise.

MT’s huge popularity, bordering on adulation, owes largely to the way he presents the social history of Kerala in his works. The centrepiece of his fiction, Kudallur, is a picturesque little village that is a microcosm of Kerala’s agrarian economy.

Known for his versatility, the writer’s legacy reaches beyond the pages, to the screen with his immortal characters: Chanthu ( Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha), Unnimaya ( Parinayam), Indira ( Panchagni), Sathyanathan ( Sadayam), Dr. Haridas ( Amrutham Gamaya).

Here is a glimpse into the moments from the life and career of this literary icon.
