International science film festival begins in Thrissur on Friday  

30 science films, sky watch, and lectures among the programmes

The first-ever International Science Film Festival (ISFF 2024) in the State will begin on Friday. The festival, organised by the Thrissur district panchayat in association with IFFT Film Centre, Kerala Sasthra Sahitya Parishad, and Bhoumam Social Initiative, will take place at the Vigyan Sagar Science and Technology Park Complex, Ramavarmapuram, on November 29 and 30.

Thrissur district panchayat president V.S. Prince will inaugurate the festival on Friday morning. To announce the festival, boards have been displayed in Cherur, Viyyur, Kuttumuk, and Peringavu.

Over the two-day event, approximately 30 science films will be screened. The films will cover categories such as biopics of scientists, a retrospective of natural historian David Attenborough’s works, a package introducing the world’s science channels, award-winning Indian documentaries, and fiction films in Malayalam and English with science themes. Films made by various schools will also be screened.

In addition, there will be Science and Maths quiz programmes for children, with prizes for participants. Lectures by experts as well as a robotics workshop for school and college students will be held.

An Open Forum with the directors and curators of the science films will take place, and a sky watch event will be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
