Movie withdrawn temporarily from theatres
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduThe makers of the movie Turkish Tharkkam directed by Navaz Sulaiman said in Kochi on Wednesday that they were temporarily withdrawing the film from cinemas following allegations by a few that the work had hurt the religious sentiments of a community. The movie, starring Lukman, Sunny Wayne, Harishree Ashokan and Amina Nijam, was released on November 22. The content of the work revolves around the conflict arising out of the burial of a body. Mr. Sulaiman along with Nadir Khalid pointed out that the movie did not hurt any religious sentiment. But some vested interests were purposefully trying to spread lies about the content. The movie would be released again after clearing the misconceptions about it. If required, we were ready to remove the scenes that had invited criticism from a section of the audience, they said.
