SC grants interim relief to Telugu actor Mohan Babu in case of ‘assault’ on journalist

by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduThe Supreme Court on Thursday (January 9, 2024) granted interim bail to Telugu actor Mohan Babu in an alleged case of assault on a journalist.
A Bench of Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Prashant Kumar Mishra directed the Telangana Police to not take any coercive action against the actor.
The order came in Mr. Babu’s appeal against a Telangana High Court decision to dismiss his anticipatory bail application on December 23 last year.
Issuing notice to the State Police, the top court listed the case after four weeks.
Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for the actor, said he had had a dispute with his son who had barged into his home along with mediapersons.
Mr. Rohatgi said the actor threw a microphone at a journalist in the heat of the moment. The senior lawyer said his client was willing to issue a public apology and even compensate for his actions.
He said the actor had gone to meet the journalist in the hospital and expressed remorse for his conduct.
Counsel, appearing for the journalist, said his client was grievously injured and underwent a reconstruction surgery of his jaw.
The journalist had alleged that Mr. Babu was aggressive towards him and other journalists during a visit to the actor’s Jalpally home on December 10, to cover an ongoing dispute between the actor and his younger son, Manoj.
