Liam Gallagher hits back over criticism Oasis reunion support act

by · Manchester Evening News

After months of speculation, yesterday Oasis finally confirmed their first official support act of the eagerly-anticipated comeback tour.

While it had been rumoured for a while, Wigan's Richard Ashcroft was announced as the special guest for the UK and Ireland leg of the huge Oasis Live '25 tour.

Brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher announced earlier this summer that they would be reuniting for a massive world tour set to take place next year. The Oasis tour has become the hottest ticket of the year, with all 19 UK and Ireland shows selling out in record time.

Announcing the news in an official announcement on Monday, the band also detailed the "long connection and strong mutual respect" with The Verve star Richard. Describing him as a 'huge fan favourite', they said that he was guaranteed to bring the atmosphere to a 'fever pitch'.

However, following yesterday's announcement, which was largely met with a positive fan reaction, frontman Liam Gallagher felt compelled to address his followers on social media following some criticism.

The frontman directly confronted criticism on X, formerly Twitter who felt the Burnage-born band should be giving new artists a chance to support Oasis.

This morning, Liam Gallagher wrote on Twitter: "To all the folk who are crying about us not showing love to the young bands and not letting them support there's LEVELS to this game and I'm afraid 99 p cent of ya are way off."

It followed an earlier exchange where on X user called the Ashcroft confirmation the 'least surprising news ever' and added they hoped Oasis 'give some new artists the chance as well'.

Liam quipped back saying 'there all s*** I'm afraid' and after the same X user told he he hadn't listened to Wunderhorse and The K's, he told him to 'behave'.

Following his latest tweet, a number of fans backed Liam up however. One wrote: "He's right, Oasis are on a totally different level, talking about a band that was the biggest in the world for 2 years."

Another added: "Gott earn the right to share the stage with Oasis."

Clearly pleased to be confirmed as the support for the UK and Ireland leg, Richard Ashcroft said yesterday: "As a fan from day one I was buzzing for many reasons when the news of Oasis’s return was announced. I can say with no exaggeration that the songwriting talent of Noel and Liam’s pure spirit as a lead singer helped to inspire me to create some of my best work.

"It was the perfection of ‘Live Forever’ that forced me to try and write my own. They dared to be great, made the dreams we had real and I will always remember those days with joy. Now it’s time to create more memories and I’m ready to bring it. See you next summer. Music is power.”

While Ashcroft and Manic Street Preachers have been some of the names floated about since Oasis confirmed their reunion back in August, other names rumoured to be joining the band include Stockport band Blossoms, as well Liverpool's finest, Cast, the latter who recently supported Liam on his solo tour.

The band's spokespeople say: "Details regarding the rest of the support line-up for Oasis’s UK and Ireland shows - their only European shows in 2025 - will be revealed in due course".
