BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Wynne Evans given 'glimmer of hope' as winning chances 'slip away'
by Jessica Sansome · Manchester Evening NewsWynne Evans has been delivered a 'glimmer of hope' as he prepares for his next Strictly Come Dancing performance. The opera singer had to fight for his place in the competition last weekend alongside dance partner Katya Jones.
Last Saturday night (November 9), Wynne was praised for improving his footwork following his performance of an American Smooth to Grace Kelly by Mika with Katya, for which the pair were awarded 32 points out of a possible 40 from the judges.
Despite the praise, as mentioned, Wynne and Katya had to fight for their place in week nine of Strictly's 20th-anniversary series during the latest results show on Sunday (November 10) after landing in the dance-off against Shayne Ward and Nancy Xu.

Both couples had to reprise their week eight performances and after both couples had danced a second time, the judges delivered their verdicts: Craig Revel Horwood chose to save Shayne and Nancy, as did Motsi, while Anton Du Beke chose to save Wynne and Katya. With two votes in favour of Shayne and Nancy, the decision came down to head judge Shirley, who decided to save Wynne and Katya.
Since then, Wynne and Katya have been back in training for this Saturday's (November 16) performance, which will see them dance a Charleston to Carmen Suite No.1: 5.Les toréadors by Georges Bizet.
But the pair have been dealt a major blow. Wynne is currently leading the elimination market this week, with odds of 4/6 suggesting he's most likely to be sent home. Hot on his heels is Pete Wicks, priced at 3/1, while Jamie Borthwick follows closely behind with odds of 11/2.

Betfred’s Kayley Cornelius said "Punters are increasingly convinced that this weekend marks the end of the road for Wynne Evans' ballroom journey, with odds of 4/6 stacked against him being eliminated on Sunday night. After another week spent fighting to stay in the competition, and with his popularity steadily declining among viewers since the ‘wandering hands’ scandal, it seems Wynne’s chances of winning are slipping away fast.
"However, there might still be a glimmer of hope for Wynne if he ends up in the dance-off against Pete Wicks, who closely trails behind with 3/1 odds of elimination."
She added: "If Pete does find himself in the bottom two, it could well be a final farewell for him as he continues to struggle near the bottom of the leaderboard. His fans' loyalty will be tested once again this weekend, and they’ll need to rally hard if they want to keep the former TOWIE star in the competition."
