Doves announce first UK tour in five years - including night in Manchester

by · Manchester Evening News

Greater Manchester indie band Doves have announced a huge UK tour - including a night in their hometown.

The trio, known for hits including There Goes The Fear, Black and White Town, and Snowden, formed after meeting at The Hacienda and have gone on to score five top 20 albums, including three number ones, since their debut album in 2000.

Having taken a hiatus in 2020, the band - made up of Jimi Goodwin and brothers Andy and Jez Williams - released their first piece of music in four years last month. Their sixth album is due for release in February.

Last week, the band announced a string of intimate shows which will see the brothers tour without lead singer Jimi, who is stepping away from live performances having previously spoken publicly about his mental health struggles. In 2021, the band cancelled their tour with a statement saying that ‘performing live isn't possible for us at this time or in the immediate future’.

The three intimate shows, which include dates in Stoke, Birkenhead and Hebden Bridge later this month and sold out within minutes, will now be followed by a full UK tour, which kicks off in February next year.

Coinciding with the release of new album Constellation For The Lonely, the tour will kick off on February 25 in Glasgow and will include a night at Manchester's Aviva Studios on March 7.

Again, the tour will take place without frontman Jimi, with Andy and Jez, who have interchanged with Jimi on vocals throughout the band’s career, taking on a ‘broader role’ as vocalists to play a mix of new and classic Dove songs.

Announcing the intimate live dates last week, the band stated that “Jimi’s health came first”, while he added his current circumstances were “not compatible with a mad, city-to-city schedule.”

Tickets for the UK tour, which is set to end in Oxford on March 18, will go on sale next Thursday (November 21) at 9.30am. Tickets will be available via See Tickets.
