Strictly Come Dancing's Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell dealt huge blow ahead of results

The 2024 season of Strictly Come Dancing has seen the bookies favourite change from a Love Island star to a stand up comedian - but now the odds have shifted again

Strictly Come Dancing's Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell reportedly won't win the series.

The 47-year-old blind comedian and the 35-year-old Australian dance professional have systematically topped the odds for the current season of the BBC's long-running dance competition. But now another star couple are coming from behind to snatch the better odds of waltzing off with the Glitterball trophy.

While Chris and Dianne have been reasonably consistent with the scores they receive from the judges, averaging at 28 over their time on the show, EastEnders heartthrob Jamie Borthwick, 30, and his dance partner Michelle Tsiakkas, 29, have seen a general improvement in scores week on week and now are in the lead as the ones to back to scoop the prize at the end of the competition. The pair started off the contest securing modest scores in the early 20s, but have now risen to secure scores that are routinely in the late 30s.

And now betting technology has been used to suggest the pair are now the main candidates to win the 2024 contest. Statistics and scores of past Strictly winners have been used to make fresh predictions - with Jamie and Michelle coming out on top.

Gloucestershire Live has shared the evidence of the number crunching, reporting: "BonusCodeBets.co.uk Supercomputer, which accurately predicted 33/1 outsider Hamza Yassin as the 2022 winner, analysed the traits of all previous 21 winners, revealing that the typical champion is a 31-year-old male actor. Among this year's celebrities, East-London-born Jamie closely matches the profile of a typical winner in terms of gender, occupation, and age. Actors have proven to be the most successful profession, with seven wins out of 21."

A spokesperson for BonusCodeBets.co.uk told the publication: "Jamie Borthwick has danced his way back into the spotlight after a show-stopping performance in week five that sent him straight to the top of the leaderboard. Our Supercomputer predicted him as the one to watch before the first step was even danced, and now he's proving to be the real deal. Looks like the only thing more accurate than Jamie's footwork is our algorithm!"

Love Island star Tasha Ghouri, who is paired with professional dancer Aljaž Škorjanec, had started out as the bookie's favourite for the current season, but was later overtaken by Chris McCausland who has now been leapfrogged by Jamie. Jamie would be the latest in a long line of soap stars to win Strictly Come Dancing - with last year's winner, Ellie Leach, having been an actress in Coronation Street. EastEnders star Rose Ayling-Ellis won the show in 2021, Emmerdale star Kelvin Fletcher won in 2019, while the 2017 winner was Joe McFadden who starred in the Scottish soap Take the High Road early in his acting career.

The other soap stars that have won Strictly in the past are EastEnders actress Kara Tointon, who won in 2010, Emmerdale actor Tom Chambers, who won in 2008, and EastEnders icon Jill Halfpenny - who won in 2004.
