BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Chris McCausland's latest odds revealed as 'huge shock' prediction made
Strictly Come Dancing's Chris McCausland has been a favourite to win the BBC talent show for some time and as the series nears its end, bookies reveal a ‘huge shock’ prediction
by Beth Hardie · The MirrorStrictly’s Chris McCausland has previously revealed how "surprised" he has been by his time on the dancefloor so he’ll be stunned by an expert's latest news. Comedian Chris McCausland is making history as the first blind contestant to take part in Strictly Come Dancing. He didn’t rate his chances of performing the complicated routines at the start of the series but as each week goes past, viewers and judges have been moved and enchanted by his dances.
After he performed an American Smooth to Jump by Paul Anka alongside his professional partner Dianne Buswell at the legendary Blackpool Tower Ballroom, they were awarded a mind blowing result. Judges Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke topped scores by holding up their 10 paddles, Motsi Mabuse gave them 9 and the notoriously tough Craig Revel Horwood broke tradition by giving them a remarkable 8. This took their final score to 37 out of 40.
Afterwards, Dianne was overcome with emotion and an equally teary Chris comforted her as she struggled to speak. Over the weeks, BBC viewers have seen Chris go from strength to strength in the competition, making him one of the bookie's favourites to win the show.
Following a previous performance when they danced a Waltz, Chris appeared on spin-off show It Takes Two and told host Janette Manrara how shocked he was at people believing he could eventually lift the Glitterball Trophy. He said: "I'm surprised I'm here, to be honest. I didn't think I'd be able to do it. I'm surprising myself, that's what I'm saying. I'm surprising people out there, surprising myself. I'm probably surprising you [Dianne]. I think we together are surprising ourselves."
The latest odds on his chances are sure to stun the dad of one even more. Chris and Dianne are now odds-on to win Strictly, according to Coral. The leading bookmaker now makes Chris as short as 1-4 in their betting to win Strictly Come Dancing 2024. Although he has topped the outright market since week two, this is now the shortest price he has been to be victorious.
Speaking about the odds Coral’s John Hill revealed it would now be a "huge shock" if Chris didn’t win the show. "Our betting suggests Chris McCausland is going to take some beating in this year's Strictly series. He is now long odds-on to lift the Glitterball Trophy, and it would be a huge shock if he weren't crowned the winner," he said.
Miranda actress Sarah Hadland is second favourite with bookies at 4-1, while Tasha Ghouri is 14-1 to lift the Glitterball Trophy. The odds are: 1-4 Chris McCausland, 4-1 Sarah Hadland, 14-1 Tasha Ghouri, 40-1 Jamie Borthwick, 50-1 JB Gill, 66-1 Pete Wicks, 100-1 Montell Douglas
