People insist they could beat man's 'silly' Guinness World Record we all tried as a kid

'It's way tougher than it looks' insists Guinness World Records as people claim they could easily beat a champion speed eater's new record for the fastest time to drink a Capri Sun

People insist that they could beat a champion speed eater at a challenge we all tried as kids – but it is much tougher than it sounds.

Mike Jack has broken the Guinness World Record for the fastest time to drink a Capri Sun through a paper straw. Many people, including Mike, had tried and failed in the past, leaving the record unclaimed until now.

Recently, the Canadian man visited the Guinness World Record headquarters in London to give it another go - and it finally paid off as he claimed the title with a time of 21.71 seconds.

The fastest time to drink a Capri Sun – a regular one with a plastic straw – is just 8.02 seconds, achieved by Fayis Nazer from India. "That just goes to show the difference in difficulty the paper straw creates," a spokesperson for Guinness World Records said.

Mike's time to beat was 22 seconds and he was instructed that if any of the drink spilled, or if there is anything more than half a teaspoon of liquid left in the pouch it is a disqualification.

On his first attempt, shown on Guinness World Records YouTube page, Mike fumbled after dropping the straw on the floor in a panicked rush. On his second attempt there was too much liquid left inside the pouch and he took longer to put the straw into the pouch - and his third tried didn't work out either. But on his fourth attempt he was able to beat the record.

He breathed a sigh of relief when the amount of liquid left inside the Capri Sun pouch measured to be exactly half a teaspoon, bagging him the record title. The world record holder's wife Jamie joined him and gave him a kiss on the cheek to celebrate his achievement.

Mike, who is coached by his wife, said: "Her technique got it for us. Do a little extra blow to get some more air in there, get all the liquid out of the creases and then suck it in. That's what did it."

However, a number of Capri Sun fans insist that they could beat the record with ease. One confessed: "22 seconds seems easy to beat."

Another added: "22 seconds? I think I beat that a few years ago. We always tried the fastest time back in school." A third wrote: "I'm going to head out and buy bare Capri Suns now."

A fourth boasted: "I'm gonna beat that." And another added: "Going to be honest, I could beat this."

Others didn't seem impressed by the skill. One individual said: "Guinness World Records used to be like fastest human and actually impressive stuff but now it's stuff that's only a record because it's the first time someone attempts it."

"Lots of people have attempted this and of course we still monitor all the other stuff too, we just do fun stuff like this from time to time," responded Guinness World Records.

"This isn't it, Guinness," said another. Another commented: "This is not impressive. We all have done that faster than this dude on a hot summer day at the pool."

"He wasn't even that fast," wrote another. But one individual said they found it "impressive", and another watcher said: "This is tougher than I expected!"
