BBC Strictly Come Dancing fans baffled by JLS star's stone cold reaction to JB Gill dance
JB Gill was joined by his JLS bandmates for a catch up as he trained for the Blackpool round of Strictly - but fans noticed one singer gave a cold reaction and fear the boys are secretly feuding
by Seamus Duff · The MirrorStrictly Come Dancing fans were surprised by the icy reception that one JLS member gave celebrity contestant JB Gill.
Boyband member JB, 37, is a member of the Everybody In Love singing group alongside Aston Merrygold, 36, Oritsé Williams, 37, and Marvin Humes, 39. He is one of the stars taking part in the 2024 season of the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing and was originally paired with professional dancer Amy Dowden, 34, until injury forced her out of the competition and she was replaced by Lauren Oakley, 33.
JB and Lauren have been wowing fans in recent weeks - winning enough support to take them to Blackpool for the annual Tower ballroom floor special. And as an extra boost for the singer, his band-members visited him during rehearsals ahead of Saturday night's show.
Pre-recorded VT showed JB looking delighted to see his three close friends coming to cheer him on - with Aston and Marvin shown beaming and chatting to him as they encouraged him to go all the way to the final and win the glitterball trophy prize. But fans were curious to notice that Oritsé remained a stoney silence throughout the segment and also stood slightly apart from his co-stars.
Taking to X, fans were quick to question if the singer had been silenced for some unspecified reason - and to speculate if there could be tension between the boys. One wrote: "Aston and Marvin proper buzzing for JB in his strictly vt. Then you get oritse….." And another typed: "Does Oritsé not talk anymore?!" alongside emotional faced emojis and a Strictly hashtag.
Another fan questioned: "Why is Oritsé getting sidelined? #JLS #Strictly #BBCOne." And another asked: "Is Oritsé under contract to another TV company or something? Is he no longer allowed to speak on camera?" Searching for clues of a band feud, one fan wrote on X: "It could not be more obvious that 2 of these members absolutely hate each other." And one responded to write: "right, I’m not a JLS fan but form the outside looking in, is it Aston & Oritse? because that VT was awkward."
Earlier in the evening, it was revealed that Oritsé and his wife, Kazz, had welcomed a newborn son named Shiva on Thursday. Speaking to OK! about the new arrival, Oritsé - who has a 10-year-old son named Omré from a previous relationship - gushed: "Honestly, I'm on cloud nine. I’m in complete awe of my baby boy, he is truly a blessing and I'm proud of us."
The couple endured an emotional IVF journey to welcome their child, with Kazz telling the publication: "It’s definitely been a journey. I was so excited when I first got pregnant, only to find out at our three-month scan that I had miscarried. Then we got pregnant again soon after that, and miscarried again. It really affected me physically, mentally and emotionally. I was crippled with anxiety, literally crippled to the point I had to use crutches to move... Oritsé was amazing, he supported me so much... We are so blessed to have [Shiva]."
