NCIS: Tony & Ziva is a highly-anticipated spin-off show in the NCIS franchise and will be placing iconic Special Agent Anthony ‘Tony’ DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) and fan-favourite Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) front and centre.

Ahead of the new CBS series, NCIS fans have been speculating about how the sequel’s format might be different to the popular procedural from which it stems.

An excited fan took to Reddit to discuss updates to the show’s page on IMDb, which lists the cast and teases the storyline with a short synopsis.

Platform user @PupBiscuit wrote: “NCIS: tony and ziva IMDb page is out with cast. Been waiting for this to come out and keeping an eye on it.

“Came across its imdb page which confirms the release date in 2025 and the cast that will be in the first season.” (sic)

Tony and Ziva are NCIS fan-favourites

The Reddit user went on to include the plot synopsis, which reads: “After Ziva's apparent death, Tony raises their daughter, Tali.

“Years later, Ziva returns and reunites with Tony. Tony's company is attacked, and the family travels to Europe, trying to learn who's after them and to trust each other again.”

The original poster explained that the teaser “makes me wonder at what the structure of the show is going to be like”. (sic)

They continued: “Makes me wonder will it be similar to what we know or a completely different structure?

“Also lot of executive producers and director are lesser known ones. Edit: it also confirms only 10 episodes in first season.” (sic)

Taking to the comments section, fans discussed the upcoming series and possible changes to the standard NCIS format.

“Seems more drama/thriller than procedural,” one commented, as the original poster agreed: “Yeah that’s what I was thinking thought I didn’t expect them to go that way with it.” (sic)

Another fan responded: “Michael has said on the podcast that it’s not gonna be a procedural ‘body of the week’ show…I’m looking forward to the difference.” (sic)

Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo will star in the upcoming series

Others expressed their excitement, with one writing: “I’m looking forward to seeing Tony and Ziva as parents while being partners.”

While another admitted they hoped aspects of the show would be kept the same, adding: I hope they still keep some similar elements to the original, like the ‘FOOF’ scene transitions that they always reference in the podcast, so it still feels like NCIS.” (sic)

The offshoot for NCIS: Tony & Ziva was announced back in February 2024 and is confirmed to be coming to Paramount+ in the UK with a 10-episode run for its first season.

At the time, showrunner John McNamara wrote in a joint statement with the show’s two leads: “We've been talking about this story for many years, and now with John at the helm, we are ready.

“The world of Tony and Ziva (and daughter Tali) promises to be an action-packed roller coaster fuelled by love, danger, tears and laughter.

“We also want to acknowledge and thank the fans from around the world who supported the 'TIVA' movement for years.

“To this day, they say hello in grocery stores and on the street to tell us how much these characters mean to them and ask what Tony and Ziva are up to now. This is for you.”

NCIS: Tony & Ziva is coming to Paramount+ soon, with an official release date yet to be announced. NCIS is also available to stream on Disney+.
