Strictly's Pete Wicks' fate 'sealed' with telling five-word remark after routine
There are still 10 celebrity dance couples hoping to win Strictly 2024 but on Saturday fans were left distracted as Icons Week got underway with Pete Wicks first to take to the ballroom
by Angie Quinn · The MirrorStrictly Come Dancing is celebrating 20 years of the BBC competition with a new special theme - Icons Week. But Peter Wicks was left apologising following his routine.
In this first-of-its-kind week, which will now take place each year of the dance series, the celebs and their dancing pros will dazzle the dancefloor to honour music icons.
On Saturday (2nd November), the couples paid tribute to music stars from across the decades, dancing to songs from their much-loved artists, including Whitney Houston, Shirley Bassey and Queen.
The BBC has also teased a spectacular Beyoncé medley from the professional dancers, featuring none other than Johannes Radebe channeling his inner Sasha Fierce to lead the routine.
Pete and pro dancer Jowita Przystał opened the show with a salsa to Another One Bites the Dust by Queen. When the routine was over, the duo could be seen hugging as Pete repeatedly said sorry.
After judges comments, Pete then spoke to host Claudia Winkleman about his Queen performance, and said: "I was an definatly an honour, I think it's an ironic song for me tonight, 'another one bites the dust."
Heading into Week 7, Jamie Borthwick and Michelle Tsiakkas are the couple to beat, having earned the highest-scoring dance for the second week in a row. Joining them at the top of the leaderboard last week were Sarah Hadland and Vito Coppola.
At the bottom of the scoreboard are Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell, with 26 points. Perhaps this week’s Tango to Rock and Roll All Nite by KISS will see them take that top spot.
Meanwhile, JLS star JB Gill and Lauren Oakley will perform a hip-hop-inspired couple’s choice routine to a Bruno Mars medley as Amy Dowden misses the live show.
