Ruth Jones spotted filming emotional scenes for Gavin and Stacey's final Christmas special

Nessa from Gavin and Stacey, played by Ruth Jones, was spotted 'in tears' during filming for the much-anticipated Christmas special. This comes just months after it was announced that the beloved BBC show would be returning for its final episode.

Ruth's character Nessa had a tumultuous relationship with Smithy, portrayed by James Corden, throughout the sitcom's run from 2007 to 2020. The pair even welcomed their son Neil while Nessa was dating Dave Coaches.

In the 2019 Christmas special, Nessa confessed her love for Smithy and proposed to him. However, viewers were left hanging as the credits rolled before Smithy could respond.

Fast forward five years, and speculation about the proposal's outcome has intensified. Ruth, along with Gavin and Stacey stars Joanna Page, Julia Davis, Alison Steadman, and Melanie Walters, were seen filming together.

They were rumoured to be shooting Nessa's hen party, looking glamorous for a night out, reports OK!.

During filming, heavy rain started, but the group continued the scene under a screen. Ruth was seen wearing a burgundy leather jacket over a black top with fishnet detailing.

Joanna looked stunning in a pink and white floral dress paired with a coral denim jacket, while Jullia opted for a chic black cardigan, elevating her look with a leopard print scarf.

James Corden, the star behind Smithy, has been winding up fans about the much-anticipated episode. The Late Late Show host gave a sneak peek from behind the scenes, revealing Smithy's work van emblazoned with the cheeky slogan: "Smithy's: if your husband won't do it I will... Tilin, roofin, plasterin, and feng shui. Call me on 07700978978."

Corden captioned the teaser photo with: "Day 1. Here we go x."

Earlier in the year, it was James himself who dropped the bombshell about the show's return, posting a picture with Ruth Jones as they proudly displayed the script for the new series.

"Some news... It's official! ! ! We have finished writing the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey. See you on Christmas Day, BBC One. Love Ruth and James," he excitedly announced.
