Onimusha: Way of the Sword gets an earlier release date

Instead of releasing at the end of September, Onimusha has advanced to an early September release.

Capcom has delivered some good news for Onimusha fans in the form of a release date advancement. These are rare. Players are far more used to hearing about delays affecting games they’re looking forward to, so Onimusha: Way of the Sword moving from an end of September date to one earlier in the month is a thing to celebrate.

On July 1, 2026, Capcom announced Onimusha: Way of the Sword will now release on September 4, 2026 on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch 2. This is almost a three week promptitude.

This earlier release date has resulted in Capcom making the decision to make the pre-order bonus an early adopter bonus. Players will instead have until September 24 to secure these rewards. The rewards in question are a Lion Dog charm that grants a “special effect” and the Sealed Curse sword appearance.

It’s not every day that we hear about video games receiving an earlier release date. It’s far more common for them to be delayed or, especially these days, canceled altogether. Things must have been going quite well behind the scenes during the development of Onimusha.
