Arkane Studios reportedly has until November 13 to find a buyer to avoid closure
Representatives from a union within Arkane Lyon warned that several takeover options are being considered with approximately 217 jobs at risk of layoff under Xbox.
by TJ Denzer · ShacknewsThere is reportedly an official deadline on when Arkane Studios might be at risk to close, affecting 217 jobs in the Arkane Lyon office. According to union members within the studio, Arkane has until November 13 to find a buyer before French protections from outright mass layoffs lapse.
This was reported via French publication Le Monde, who spoke with union members of Printemps Ecologique, a trade union within Arkane Lyon. It was in July 2026 that new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma announced a major restructuring that launched mass layoffs expected to affect 3,200 employees. In the midst of studios closing or being divested, Arkane Studios began required consultation to sell off to a willing buyer.

Up to this point, Arkane has reportedly been in talks about several potential takeover paths, but nothing has solidified yet. If the November 13 deadline hits and Arkane Lyon isn’t divested, it could be closed.
Xbox and Sharma have talked up a big new chapter for the group, but that path has been littered with numerous job losses, studio closures, and arguably unearned rewards and accolades, which Senior Editor Ozzie Mejia feels undercuts any positivity the company may try to sow.
As we await more news on the potential buyout or selloff, stay tuned to the Arkane Studios topic for updates.
