Sea of Thieves live action movie is in development
The movie will come from Spider-Man: Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton's production company.
by Ozzie Mejia · ShacknewsVideo game adaptations are one of the biggest trends in Hollywood today. Major video game publishers keep aiming for a piece of that lucrative pie. Xbox is one of them, having already capitalized on properties under its vast umbrella, like Halo, Fallout, and Minecraft. Now it's time for a major motion picture based on the swashbuckling adventures of Sea of Thieves.
Entertainment Weekly (via Wario64) was first to the story, noting that a Sea of Thieves movie will come through Destin Daniel Cretton's production company, Hisako Films. While Cretton is known as the director for Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, he is currently not slated to direct the Sea of Thieves movie. The project does not have a director attached at the moment.
Little else is known about the Sea of Thieves movie. There doesn't appear to be any hint of a plot at this time, further corroborated by Xbox Executive Vice President Matt Booty's statement to Entertainment Weekly. Booty told the publication that Sea of Thieves has always been a social game focused on a whole community, but also a game with a distinct tone.
Sea of Thieves was most recently in the news when Xbox announced that Rare's long-running pirate game would receive custom servers through a new update. Shacknews will be sure to monitor both the game and the upcoming movie for any big stories, so keep watching this site for the latest updates.
