Fans of the Fallout series still have a long wait ahead of them for the series’ next mainline entry, but developer Bethesda Game Studios has provided the first significant update on its development. Fallout 5 is officially in pre-production.

Bethesda’s Todd Howard shared the news in a statement detailing the future of the studio. Fallout 5 is being described as a “long-range destination” for Bethesda Game Studios, which is primarily working on The Elder Scrolls 6 right now.

Howard also confirmed that Fallout 5 is being developed on the Creation 3 engine, which was revealed earlier this. “It allows our teams to support multiple projects simultaneously with new tools, rendering, and systems that define our games,” he wrote. The same engine is being used in the development of The Elder Scrolls 6.

In other Fallout news, Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are both confirmed to be getting remasters. Bethesda also confirmed that it’s working with Obsidian Entertainment on a new Fallout game.
