Alien: Isolation 2 devs address what took so long to get to the sequel

Creative Director Al Hope and Animation Director Simon Ridge gave us the full details on why Creative Assembly took a decade to get here.

Alien: Isolation was an incredible game that offered an amazing story of horror and survival in the sci-fi lair of an apex predator, and it sold incredibly well, so it’s a little strange that we had to wait more than a decade to get the sequel from Sega and Creative Assembly. Recently, Shacknews Video Editor Greg Burke met with Alien: Isolation 2 Creative Director Al Hope and Animation Director Simon Ridge to talk about why it took so long.

In our video interview from Shacknews E4 2026, Hope stated that it was simply a matter of having other things that had to be done at the time.

“The short answer is we’ve been really busy as a studio,” Hope explained. “It felt like now’s the right time to come back. I’d been thinking a lot about creating a sequel to the game, even before the first game was finished… I guess we were waiting for the time to be right and that feels like now.”

Alien: Isolation 2 floored fans with its appearance at Summer Game Fest 2026. The game promises to take a new survivor outside into an inhospitable open land that will act as the new hunting ground for a xenomorph that threatens our every advance. Like the first game, the xenomorph will stalk us, learn about us, and attempt to outsmart players as they try to survive and escape it. In this interview, Snow and Ridge also speak on the challenges of taking the series outdoors.
