Paramount Pictures has secured a deal to make a movie based on Cyberpunk 2077. The film will be co-produced by game developer CD Projekt RED, who will work alongside Hollywood producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

Variety reported that a Cyberpunk 2077 movie was in the works. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the film’s producer, most notably produced the live action Transformers film. There’s no word on a cast or filmmaker, though the source material famously featured Keanu Reeves as Johnny Silverhand.

Cyberpunk 2077 launched in 2020 and ushered in a new era for CD Projekt RED. The sci-fi RPG was set in a futuristic metropolis with smart weapons, technologically advanced vehicles, and cybernetically enhanced humans. The 2023 DLC, Phantom Liberty, expanded the story and added Idris Elba to the game’s cast.

Cyberpunk will be the latest adaptation of a CD Projekt RED video game, following The Witcher television show on Netflix. Cyberpunk 2077 was previously adapted for the streaming platform as an animated series called Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

Paramount Pictures is fresh off of an acquisition of Warner Bros., which it has merged with to form Skydance. As part of an agreement to get the deal across the finish line, Paramount pledged to release 30 films in theaters, annually, for at least five years.
