Call of Duty 2026 will skip PS4 and Xbox One releases
Activision has confirmed that the next Call of Duty is not being developed for the last generation consoles.
by Donovan Erskine · ShacknewsFor the first time since Call of Duty: Ghosts, the Call of Duty franchise will skip the PS4/Xbox One console generation. Publisher Activision clarified the matter after rumors to the contrary began circulating online.
“Not sure where this one started, but it’s not true,” wrote the official Call of Duty X account in a post. “The next Call of Duty is not being developed for PS4.” This statement was made after rumors began to spread that the next Call of Duty game was being tested on the PlayStation 4.
This marks a departure for the Call of Duty series, which has released 13 installments on the PS4 and Xbox One over the past 13 years. This includes last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.
The next Call of Duty game has yet to be announced, but it will presumably launch later this year. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma recently announced that as part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate’s price reduction, new installments in the Call of Duty series will no longer be included in the service.
