'The Origins of 007 First Light' explores the upcoming Bond game's creation
For our latest Shacknews documentary, Head of Video Greg Burke and I took a trip to Los Angeles to interview some of the minds behind 007 First Light.
by David Craddock · ShacknewsNearly 14 years have passed since the last James Bond video game. IO Interactive will change that next month with the release of 007 First Light, an origin story about James Bond’s humble beginnings. What better way to kill 15 minutes than by exploring the origin of the origin story?
The Origins of 007 First Light is a Shacknews documentary that delves into how IO Interactive secured the Bond license, and the motivations of the game’s young James Bond. Head of Video Greg Burke and I traveled to Los Angeles for a preview event, where we interviewed Narrative and Cinematic Designer Martin Emborg and Senior Licensing Producer Theuns Smit about 007 First Light’s creation. You can watch the documentary below.
“The opportunity came along that we could work on this IP,” Smit tells us. “It really felt like a no-brainer when the opportunity was there.”
The narrative thrust of the game explores Bond’s genesis as a double-oh agent long before he receives his license to kill. “I think for Bond, just because he's not been overexposed in the way that I think a lot of other IPs have, it's not a story that's been told before,” says Emborg.
You can watch the 12-and-a-half-minute documentary above. If you’re new to our YouTube channel, give us a sub and like the video to stay updated on more documentaries as they become available.
