Like a Dragon/Yakuza creator Toshiro Nagoshi’s Shinjuku-based Nagoshi Studio has closed as of this last weekend on October 31.

Word of the studio’s closure came from Japanese government gazette Kanpo. Nagoshi Studio has officially been dissolved as of the end of October, and its projects have ended development. That includes Gang of Dragon, which was revealed at The Game Awards 2025 and was set to star Korean actor Ma Dong-seok (Don Lee).

Nagoshi Studio looked to be in trouble since about April 2026 of this year, when it was reported that parent company NetEase Games was pulling funding. Soon after, the website for Gang of Dragon went offline. Bloomberg reported in March 2026 that NetEase would give Nagoshi Studio time to go independent by buying its way out from under NetEase, but that buyout never happened.

With Nagoshi Studio shut down, we’ll be on the lookout to see what’s next for Nagoshi. Stay tuned to the topic on him for more news and updates.
