Congregation Tzemach Tzedek of Monsey has issued a statement denying any involvement in the mysterious booklet that was recently distributed throughout Crown Heights and mailed to homes in other communities.
The booklet, titled “I sent my son to Crown Heights for Shiur Daled,” raised concerns about the spiritual environment in Crown Heights and particularly its effect on young bochurim who come from out of town to learn near 770.
As COLlive reported, the publication did not identify an author or sponsoring organization. The only identifying information was a return address in Monsey associated with Congregation Tzemach Tzedek.
Following the article, a member of the shul’s board contacted COLlive to clarify that the congregation had no connection to the publication.
“This pashkvil did not come from us,” the board member told COLlive. “Somebody used our address without permission.”
Congregation Tzemach Tzedek subsequently provided the following statement:
“Congregation Tzemach Tzedek of Monsey wants to state clearly that we had no involvement in the anonymous booklet recently distributed in Crown Heights and mailed to homes elsewhere, as reported in your article ‘Who Is Behind the Mystery Booklet Decrying Crown Heights?’
“We did not write, fund, authorize, or distribute it, and we did not know our address would appear on it.
“Our shul has deep ties to Crown Heights and the Rebbe’s shechunah, and we do not endorse the booklet or the way it was put out.
The identity of the individual or group behind the booklet remains unknown.
