19-year-old tentatively charged with trafficking ecstasy at Kota Kinabalu’s Asia City
by Suraini Andokong · Borneo Post OnlineKOTA KINABALU (Sept 23): A youth has been tentatively charged in a Magistrates’ Court here with trafficking 206.68 grammes of ecstasy.
No plea was recorded from the 19-year-old, who appeared before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin.
He was charged under Section 39B (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which is punishable under Section 39B (2) of the same Act.
Upon conviction, the charge carries the death sentence or life imprisonment and a minimum 12 strokes of the cane.
The court fixed Oct 19 for further mention of the case and for the youth, who did not have legal counsel, to be further detained in custody until disposal of the case.
Deputy public prosecutor Akaash Singh handled the prosecution.
The alleged offence was committed in front of a shop at Asia City here at 2.30am on Sept 18.
