Tourism Malaysia to boost promotion of lesser-known destinations including in Sarawak
by BP Editor 10 · Borneo Post OnlineKUALA LUMPUR (Nov 27): Tourism Malaysia will intensify efforts to promote lesser-known destinations across the country next year to stimulate the domestic tourism sector, its director-general Datuk Manoharan Periasamy said.
He said this was important as Malaysia boasts a wealth of natural treasures with great potential to become popular tourist attractions.
“For instance, attractions like the ‘Sky Mirror’ in Sekinchan can also be found in Johor. Similarly, the ‘Blue Tears’ phenomenon seen in Sekinchan can also be experienced at Pulau Sembilan in Perak. Waterfalls and natural attractions, particularly in Kota Bharu, Sabah and Sarawak, are also destinations that could draw more local tourists.
“We aim to collaborate with corporate entities like Petronas and PLUS to create value-added programmes encouraging Malaysians to explore their own country,” he told Bernama after the MYES 2024 media conference here today.
He said Tourism Malaysia would work closely with local authorities and state governments to enhance promotional activities for these lesser-known locations.
“One of the strategies we’ll employ is engaging local influencers. We plan to take them to these destinations so they can promote and showcase them on their social media platforms,” he said.
Manoharan said this initiative would indirectly encourage economic growth in local communities, particularly benefiting car rental operators, restaurants, small and medium enterprises and accommodations. – Bernama
