KUCHING (Nov 28): Borneo Highland Glamping Festival 2.0, an event that has grown to become the biggest glamping event in Borneo, will be held on Dec 13 to 15 at the Borneo Highland Resort, Jalan Puncak Borneo near here.

Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah told a press conference today that this year’s festival will host participants from five countries namely Indonesia, Singapore, China, Brunei, and Thailand, further cementing Sarawak’s reputation as a premier destination for international visitors, he said.

“I am proud to share that the second edition of this festival will feature a remarkable 250 tents, nearly doubling in size.

“This growth signifies the increasing interest and enthusiasm from participants, not just locally but from around the region,” he said.

Abdul Karim said the Borneo Highland Glamping Festival has become a flagship eco-tourism attraction, combining nature, culture, adventure, and innovation.

“It reflects our shared vision to develop new and sustainable tourism products that position Sarawak as a leading eco-tourism destination,” he added.

This festival was first introduced last year (2023), where 109 tents were installed amidst the beautiful surroundings of the Borneo Highlands.

“It (the first edition) was a resounding success, thanks to the collaboration with the Borneo Highlands Residents Club, and it laid the foundation for what we are about to experience this year.”

Abdul Karim also said that the Borneo Highlands Resort offers participants a one-of-a-kind experience amidst Sarawak’s lush greenery.

The event features an exciting line-up of activities, including the Traditional Food and Craft Workshops, organised by Kelab Belia Proaktif, to showcase Sarawak’s rich cultural heritage; Yoga and Meditation, allowing participants to rejuvenate amidst the tranquillity of nature; Archery, in collaboration with Kelab Memanah Traditional Kargun and; Kayaking, supported by the Sarawak Sports Corporation.

Other highlights include morning Zumba, food vendors, an outdoor expo, a mini concert, and a mesmerising fire show, ensuring a dynamic and unforgettable experience for everyone.

This event would not have been possible without the tireless efforts and contributions of our collaborators and supporters, he said while thanking Kelab Belia Proaktif, Ministry of Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development (MySED), and Kelab Memanah Traditional Kargun.

“My heartfelt appreciation also goes to our supporters namely Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA), State Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS), Borneo Highlands Residents Club (BHRC), whose support has been instrumental since the very beginning,” he said.

“Events like this not only showcase Sarawak’s natural beauty but also strengthen community ties, enhance regional connections, and highlight our ability to innovate in tourism.”

In passing, Abdul Karim told reporters that the Borneo Highland Resort development is under the purview of LCDA, whom he hoped would be more aggressive in improving the situation there after the conclusion of some legal battles over the area.
