KUCHING (Sept 28): Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar presented the prestigious National Book Special Award held in conjunction with the Borneo Art and Creative Awards (BACA) 2024 here on Friday.

The awards were presented across five categories, namely Borneo Culture, Music, Film, Book and the main BACA Award, and celebrated outstanding achievements in the region’s creative industries.

One of the standout winners in the Borneo Book category was ‘No to Drugs’ which was prepared and documented by Leonard Sabu.

The book won the Special Award for best general book (Social Category — Motivational Element) and was especially praised as the first handbook of its kind in Sarawak addressing drug-related challenges in the region.

The handbook serves as a reference guide for ongoing and future efforts to create a drug-free environment in Sarawak and highlights the importance of collaboration between law enforcement, communities, schools and policymakers in developing a comprehensive, sustainable solution to the drug issues.

Also present were Wan Junaidi’s wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, Deputy Minister of Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan and National Book Development Foundation’s Board of Trustees chairman Tan Sri Prof Datuk Wira Abdul Latiff Abu Bakar.
