Kanowit dad gets total 20 years’ jail, 14 lashes for raping and sexually assault teen daughter

SIBU (Oct 10): The High Court here yesterday sentenced a father to a total of 20 years in jail and 14 strokes of the cane for raping and physical sexually assaulting his teenage daughter.

Judge Musyiri Peet convicted the 45-year-old man on his own guilty plea to one charge under Section 376 of the Penal Code, and another under Section 14(s) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

For the rape charge under Section 376, the man was sentenced to 10 years’ jail and 10 strokes of the rotan, while for the charge of physical sexual assault, he was sentenced to 10 years and four strokes.

The court ordered the jail sentences to run concurrently from the day of his arrest.

According to the charges, the father raped his 16-year-old daughter at an unnumbered rental house in Kanowit around 12.30am on Jan 1.

He also committed physical sexual assault on the girl by touching her at the same place on Dec 24, 2023.

According to the facts of the case, following the rape, the victim informed her mother despite having been warned by her father not to.

Her mother immediately lodged a police report and the father was arrested at around 2.30pm the same day.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Amirul Hakim Mohamad Zamri prosecuted the case, while the father was unrepresented by legal counsel.
