Dance In Borneo to make grand return on Aug 30 in Miri
by Cindy Lai · Borneo Post OnlineMIRI (March 5): Following the success of its inaugural event two years ago, the ‘Dance In Borneo’ competition is returning for its second edition at Miri Indoor Stadium this Aug 30.
The competition is jointly organised by the Miri Thai Poo Community Association Youth Section, Miri Chiang Hsia Huang Clan Association Youth Section, Miri Chawan Association Youth Section, Miri Youth Activities Centre (MYAC), and Miri Rainbow Chorus Society Youth Section.
Organising chairperson Stephanie Ng in a statement said this year’s event will reach a new height, featuring renowned international panel of judges and providing a world-class platform for dancers to showcase their talents.
“We are proud to host an even more prestigious event this year in conjunction with Miri City’s 20th anniversary celebration.
“This competition will boost the local performing arts scene, while positioning Miri as a vibrant hub and leading destination for performing arts,” she said.
The competition will open two categories: K-Pop Dance and Open Showcase (Freestyle Dance Performance)—each limited to 20 teams.
Ng added that through this competition, they want to bring together dancers from all backgrounds and create a stage where they can express their creativity and passion while delivering a breathtaking artistic experience.
“This year’s panel of judges will consist of highly acclaimed dance professionals from Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan, South Korea, and Malaysia, which would ensure fair and high-standard evaluations.
“We believe the presence of the judges would elevate Miri’s reputation as an international destination for performing arts, inspiring local dancers to reach greater heights,” she said.
Attractive prizes worth RM30,000 await the first to fourth winners of each category, including six ‘Special Excellence Awards’.
Additionally, three special awards will be presented, namely ‘Best Costume Award’ (K-Pop Dance Competition), Best Choreography Award (Open Showcase), and ‘Most Popular Award’ (Based on audience votes).
Registration is now open until this April 15.
Early bird registration is available from March 1-31 at RM30 per person, while standard registration is available from April 1-15 at RM50 per person.
