Seni Kita returns with electrifying ‘Jungle of Light’ theme
by Ghaz Ghazali · Borneo Post OnlineKUCHING (Dec 13): Seni Kita, the annual local community-driven arts festival, returns this weekend with the ‘Jungle of Light’ theme.
Taking place at HAUS KCH in Yun Phin Building at Jalan Padungan here today and tomorrow, the event runs from 3pm to 10pm daily.
“Seni Kita is a quarterly arts festival hosted by HAUS KCH and for this series, we still highlight creative entrepreneurs and talents from various arts disciplines, as well as immersive and interactive experiences for the public.
“This ‘Jungle of Light’ edition is supported by the ‘Arts for All Seasons’ (ArtsFAS) grant under Yayasan Hasanah for the 2025 cycle,” said HAUS KCH managing director Syed Rusydie Syed Habib in a statement.
Entry to the festival is free.
“The much-beloved artisan market, ‘Pasa Seni Kita’, will feature 32 local vendors.
“For this bazaar, it is divided into two venues: 29 vendors at HAUS KCH, and three vendors at the Kuching Comic Con 2025, also taking place this weekend at Pullman Hotel Kuching.
“From food and beverages to handmade goods, art prints, and wearable accessories, there will be various niches and a wide range of items for visitors,” said Syed Rusydie.
In addition, Seni Kita’s annual collaborator, the Goethe-Institute Malaysia – a German cultural institute based in Kuala Lumpur – makes a return for its 15th anniversary run of the ‘Science Film Festival’ screening.
“Visitors are all invited to watch a shortlisted, thematic curation of the 37 age-classified films expanding on family edutainment, non-verbal and science shorts, ecology and environment, culture and history, natural science, as well as life science and technology,” said Syed Rusydie.
For those keen on poetry-writing and free-flow spoken words, Wordsmiths of Kuching is holding a ‘Word of Mouth: BorNeon’ session, which prompts audiences and performers alike to ponder the depths of living in the age of modernity versus tradition.
To be staged tonight, from 8pm onwards, the event is open to anyone who has a piece to share.
“We encourage those wishing to participate to sign up ahead by sending messages to @wordofmouthkuching or @hauskch on Instagram,” said Syed Rusydie.
Meanwhile, the Mighty Desk segment is set to introduce experimental sound practitioner Hasnizam Abdul Wahid, whose work reflects his extraordinary fascination on electroacoustic music, music technology, and computer music.
However, the event is limited to 30 people, with tickets priced at RM25 per person, inclusive of a drink. It will be taking place on Sunday, from 8pm to 10pm.

Currently led by HAUS KCH, this programme accommodates all art disciplines and their related practices such as visual arts, performing arts and literature.
The ArtsFAS is an annual grant programme by Yayasan Hasanah, dedicated to preserving Malaysia’s diverse arts, heritage, and culture.
