MIRI (Dec 19): The success of a student hinges not only on the effort and dedication of teachers but also on the consistent involvement of parents, coupled with strong self-motivation, said Sarawak transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin.

He emphasised that parents must play an active role in shaping their children’s future by providing guidance, encouragement, and a supportive home environment that nurtures both learning and character development.

“Teachers are the backbone of a child’s education, but parents are equally important partners in ensuring a student’s success. At the same time, students themselves must have strong commitment and motivation to excel,” he said.

The Senadin assemblyman said this when officiating at SK Tudan’s appreciation and excellence awards ceremony on Wednesday.

He noted that the annual ceremony celebrates not only students’ achievements in academic and co-curricular fields but also recognises the collective efforts of teachers and parents who work tirelessly to support the children’s development.

He congratulated the award recipients and described their achievements as a blessing to the school, as well as a reward to the students and their families.

“Excellence does not come easily. Along the journey towards success, there will be challenges and difficulties.

“However, where there is determination, there will always be a way,” he added, urging all parties to continue working hand-in-hand to create more success stories in the future.

Lee expressed hope that the recognition would serve as a catalyst for the award recipients to further improve their performance, while also inspiring other students to strive for excellence.
