MIRI (Nov 29): SMK Lutong Miri recently held its annual awards ceremony – the Sri Perdana Ceremony – to recognise and celebrate its students’ outstanding achievements.

The ceremony was divided into two sessions: the morning session for Special Education Integrated Programme (PPKI), Form 3, Form 4, and Form 6 Semester 1 students; and the afternoon session for Transition, Form 1, and Form 2 students.

Councillor Leslie Lau Ik Chie, representing Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting, officiated at the morning session.

In his speech, Lau emphasised the importance of continuing education after secondary school and urged students to pursue it, especially with the announcement that free higher education would be provided to all Sarawakians starting 2026.

A total of 483 students were awarded in the morning session, with awards recognising academic excellence, extra-curricular achievements, and character, while 480 students were honoured in the afternoon session.

Among the most outstanding recipients was Dominic Lim Hao Wen, a Form 5 student who received the ‘2024 Adiwarna Award’ – the highest award granted for his exceptional achievements in all three categories.

His achievements include his position as head prefect, his third-place finish in Science class as well as the Miri Division chess competition, and his gold medal in the Curtin Science Trailblazer competition.

The ceremony emphasised the school’s commitment to encouraging students to achieve excellence and motivating them to continue working hard in preparation for academic and personal success in the future.

Also present were the school’s principal Muhammad Syahmi Tan Abdullah and its parent-teacher association chairperson Sarimah Rejab.
