Nostalgia and artistry shine at ‘Malam Getaran Jiwa’ P Ramlee tribute in Kuching

KUCHING (Nov 24): The Tan Sri P Ramlee tribute concert, ‘Malam Getaran Jiwa’, held at Dewan Majma Tunku Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah here, has captivated its audience with nostalgia and artistry last night.

Organised by Jabatan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Negeri Sarawak (JKKN) in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, this event honoured one of Malaysia’s greatest icons.

The evening began on a mesmerising note with the orchestra delivering a moving instrumental rendition of the iconic ‘Getaran Jiwa’ chorus. This was followed by a teaser video showcasing the life and artistry of P Ramlee, leading seamlessly into the orchestral piece ‘Dengar Ini Cerita’.

Local artiste Hijrah Yahya energised the crowd with a lively and spirited ‘Kwek Mambo’ medley. Her infectious mambo rhythms brought vibrancy to the stage before the tempo slowed with Hairee Francis’ emotive and soulful rendition of ‘Berkorban Apa Saja’.

The night featured a diverse setlist that included beloved songs such as ‘Pesta Muda Mudi’, ‘Malam Ku Bermimpi’, ‘Jeritan Batinku’, and ‘Sedangkan Lidah Lagi Tergigit’. The orchestral medley of ‘Aci-aci Buka Pintu/Sua Sue Kemuning/Katipang Payung’ added depth to the programme, while each song was accompanied by slideshows displaying scenes from notable P Ramlee films such as ‘Hujan Panas’, ‘Nasib Do Re Mi’, and ‘Ibu Mertuaku’.

Ahmady Sapuan brought his own flair to ‘Nak Dara Rindu’ before joining Azie Mustapha for a spirited duet of ‘Joget Malaysia’. Azie followed up with her heartfelt solo of ‘Tudung Periuk’, captivating the audience with her vocal prowess and emotional delivery.

Another highlight was the duet of ‘Resam Dunia’ by Mohd Firdaus Abu Bakar and Nurhamimah Borhan, whose performance was paired with a skit from ‘Bujang Lapok’, bringing the iconic moments from the film to life on stage.

Local artiste Chien Ng delivered one of the evening’s most poignant moments with her heartfelt rendition of ‘Lagenda’. Her performance served as a beautiful tribute to P Ramlee, celebrating his unparalleled contributions to the arts.

The night concluded with a grand medley of ‘Bujang Lapok/Do Re Mi’, performed by all the featured artistes. The finale, a powerful rendition of ‘Getaran Jiwa’, brought the evening to an emotional close, leaving the audience in awe of P Ramlee’s enduring legacy.

The event was graced by Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, and supported by the Sarawak P Ramlee Fan Club. JKKN deputy director-general Rosnan Nordin highlighted the concert’s unique nature, proudly noting it as a Sarawak-made production featuring an all-local cast.

“This concert offers a fresh perspective for the younger generation, ensuring P Ramlee’s music and legacy remain vibrant and well-remembered,” he said.

Among those present last night was P Ramlee Sarawak Fan Club adviser Datuk Dr Adi Badiozaman Tuah and JKKN Sarawak director Noor Seela Noor Sulaiman.
