Sarawak to announce Petros’ status as sole gas aggregator soon, says Premier
by Churchill Edward · Borneo Post OnlineKUCHING (Nov 7): The status of Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) as sole gas aggregator in Sarawak will be announced soon, said Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“We will announce it soon,” he said briefly when met by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) after leading the Sarawak delegation to a meeting between Petros and Mubadala Energy in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) today.
He however refrained from elaborating on the matter.
On Oct 31, Abang Johari announced that Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) had recognised the designation of Petros as the sole aggregator for natural gas in the state.
The Sarawak government had given Petronas three months until October to resolve with Petros on the issue of gas distribution.
He had stressed that Sarawak operates within the legal framework of the Petroleum Development Act 1974 and the Oil Mining Ordinance 1958 for gas distribution.
Petros was given full authority to manage gas distribution in Sarawak since this July 1, he said.
However, Petronas had sought for extension over the take over of the gas distribution by Petros for fear that it would disrupt the distribution of gas to its LNG plant in Bintulu.
