Sabah students’ articles published in Nusantara English magazine
by The Borneo Post · Borneo Post OnlineKOTA KINABALU (Nov 19): Thirteen students from Sabah, who are currently studying at Keningau Vocational College (KVC), have managed to have their individual articles published in an English magazine of an educational tertiary institution in Indonesia, STKIP PGRI Pacitan.
This latest publication in which the theme was World Mental Health Day was made available for public access on October 30, 2024.

These students come from various vocational programmes namely early childhood education, bakery and pastry, cosmetology, culinary arts, construction technology, welding technology and electrical technology.
They authored a variety of articles: nine personal essays, one editorial, two feature articles, and one interview article.
A total of nine students shared their personal experiences on how they overcame their mental health-related struggle in their formative years prior to enrolling at the college. This underscored the importance for school and other agencies to prioritize youths’ mental wellbeing.
Two of the students wrote editorials where they proposed the need to create an ecosystem that supports mental wellbeing in any organizations.
One student wrote a feature article on how to cope with mental stress and another wrote an interview with a nurse about emotional management in the workplace. The students are Iza Ezatul Shuhadah Nagar Ghani, Catrisya Cymantha Cyril, Beverly Yohana Low Jia Wei, Nur Assrina Hassri, Norsyelanatrasya Ahmad, Mary Magdeline Uding Terrence, Nurbatrisyia Shariff, Rissy Rachell Richard, Iris Sofea Irfin, Jason Robert Sopining, Victoria Urai Jacob, Jueviana Shanda Freddy and Nur Fatin Afiqah Mohd Rizal. These students produced their articles with the assistance of their English language teachers as the editors and mentors. They then submitted the finalized articles to the magazine, which ultimately accepted them for publication in the October-November 2024 issue. The magazine is published bi-monthly.
The college director, Nordin bin Akup, congratulated the students for their achievement and stated that writing and publishing articles can enhance their writing skills and English proficiency. It also boosts their motivation to continue writing and it may inspire their peers to also pursue journalism and writing.
