‘The Asian Beat Fusion’: Sibu Festival to showcase regional percussive talents this Dec 8
by Jane Moh · Borneo Post OnlineSIBU (Nov 29): Sarawak Digital Media E-Platform (SDMEA) is hosting the inaugural ‘Sibu Festival – Percussive Harmonies’ this Dec 8 at Catholic High School here.
Themed ‘The Asian Beat Fusion’, the event is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts and is slated to run from 7pm to 9pm.
The festival will bring together top-tier performers and dynamic drum troupes from across the region, uniting diverse musical styles and cultures in a harmonious spectacle.
Attendees will be treated to a showcase of mesmerising performances by acclaimed groups such as FrhythmS from Kuala Lumpur and the local band Kemada.
Kemada, best known for ‘Ayun Landai’, will captivate the audience with their traditional beats and soulful ‘sape’ performance.
The ‘Gema Sarawak’ and ‘Gendang Pampat Batang Rajang’ performances, on the other hand, will showcase Sarawak’s vibrant percussive heritage, adding a cultural depth to the event.
Local talents from ST Music – Darren Ting Shi Eng and Yoiky Lau Zhi Zhi, among others, will bring a contemporary flair with popular hits like ‘Stay’ and ‘Move like Jagger’.
Also taking part in the festival are the Guong Ming Middle School and Chung Hua Middle School No. 3 Kuching, with their iconic 24 Festive Drums showcase.
There will also be a ‘bermukun’, ‘gegan melow’, ‘gegan telow’, and the Gendang Pampat Batang Rajang performance by the Newarieh Group.
For the grand finale, the event promises a powerful crescendo to this rhythmic journey through a captivating Mybeat Drum Circle and the Infinity Beat performance.
