Gemini helps me give a voice to students who cannot write.

I teach special education students across elementary, junior, and senior high — each with a different disability, mental age, and learning style. The hardest part is the weight of individualization: every student needs their own learning program, and abstract instructions mean very little without visual support.

Using Gemini on our classroom Chromebooks, I generate simple visual guides — like a child holding a pencil or opening a book — so students who cannot read can immediately understand what they are seeing. The most moving changes are my students who cannot write using voice prompts to speak to Gemini, generating their own images and expressing their ideas. It has, quite literally, given a voice to those who cannot write.

Together with colleagues, I'm building an AI-powered app that unifies special education planning and programming. For us, AI isn't just about saving time — it’s about ensuring a student’s disability no longer determines how much they get to learn.
