· CosmopolitanIf you’re enjoying Every Year After on Prime Video and want to check out the source material, or find out what happens next, you’re in luck. Carley Fortune’s book series, called the Every Summer After series, is easy to find and breezy to get through. You can do it in no time!
The story takes place over two timelines. In one, childhood sweethearts are torn apart. In the other, they’re grown up and coming back together. It’s a theme that Fortune favors (excuse the pun) in her writing a few times. The second chance romance is set in Ontatio’s cottage country, which you may have heard can be very romantic.
The series that the Prime Video drama is based on is actually a duology. Unless Fortune decides to write another installment—and maybe she will if the television adaptation is a big hit—this is a short series.

Fortune’s most recent book was published in 2026 and is an angsty AF friends-to-lovers (maybe??) story that focus on two BFFs, Frankie and George, who have to face the chemistry between them when, in an effort to cheer her up after her fiancé dumps her, decide to go on vacation together.
