Why Lewis Hamilton and Kim Kardashian Are Skipping the Oscars

Lewis Hamilton is one of the producers of the F1 movie, but—despite the film being nominated for Best Picture!!!—he and Kim Kardashian will not be making their red carpet debut at the Oscars.

For starters, these two only just started dating a few months ago and are pretty private. But more to the point, Lewis has other plans: the Formula One star will be busy racing in the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai.

“I won’t be able to go to the Oscars because we’re racing in China,” he said. “I’ve never been to the ceremony. It would have been fantastic to see it live and meet people like Denzel Washington. It means I really need to produce another film. I remember the first meetings about the script; I wanted a balance between fiction and reality.”

“Reading the first draft, I thought, Oh my god, this is Hollywood style mixed with Fast & Furious. So I started educating everyone about F1, from the writers to the actors, to the producer,” he said. “When we released the film, I was really nervous, especially at the preview for the drivers. Will they like it? Will they understand the work we’ve done? And now it’s amazing to see how it’s been appreciated even by kids who have never seen a Grand Prix.”

FYI, while Lewis will be skipping the Oscars thanks to his racing schedule, it’s possible Kim Kardashian will pop up solo at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party, which the Kardashians historically attend!
