How Kate Middleton Paid Tribute to Princess Diana and the Queen Mother at the ‘Digger’ Premiere

The UK’s biggest names were out in full force last night for the premiere of Digger, the new film starring Tom Cruise. Members of the Beckham family (specifically: David, Romeo, and Cruz) were in attendance, as was the actor Riz Ahmed.

Notably, Prince William and Princess Kate were also present. It’s worth noting that William is actually the president of BAFTA, meaning he takes a vested interest in the UK's TV and film industry.

Descending on Leicester Square for the unveiling of the Alejandro González Iñárritu-directed film, the royal couple mingled with notables and put on a stunning fashion display.

Kate was wearing a custom dress from the British designer Jenny Packham, who she has worked with multiple times over the years as part of her support for the UK fashion industry. The flowing purple gown featured a V-neck and long, see-through sleeves as well as a slight train.

Interestingly, Kate chose to make a touching statement with her jewelry: paying homage to Princess Diana and the Queen Mother.

Specifically, her pearl drop earrings were previously owned by Diana. Featuring both diamonds and pearls, the earrings were gifted to Diana by the jewelers Collingwood (a favorite of the Spencer family) and were worn by the princess on multiple occasions.

She paired the earrings with a rare necklace that had once been owned by the Queen Mother. The necklace features pearls, diamonds, and amethysts and is called the Amethyst Sautoir Necklace.

The piece was given by Queen Alexandra to Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (later known as the Queen Mother) in 1923, as a wedding gift.

By wearing these jewelry pieces, Kate pays tribute to the female royals who have preceded her, allowing their memory to live on.
