When 'The Sheep Detectives' Will Be Available to Stream and How to Watch

How can I watch The Sheep Detectives now?

· Cosmopolitan

Wait, people are really digging a movie about talking sheep who help Hugh Jackman solve a murder? The Sheep Detectives is out now, just in time for Mother’s Day. But if you happen to miss it, here’s what we know about when and where The Sheep Detectives will be streaming.

The Sheep Detectives was released in theaters on May 8, 2026.

Where will The Sheep Detectives be streaming?

So you don’t want to see the movie in theaters? No worries! This is an Amazon MGM Studios film, ergo it will be streaming on Amazon Prime Video! That was easy.

When will The Sheep Detectives be streaming?

If you navigate to the Prime Video landing page, you’ll mostly see recent releases that are Amazon Prime Originals that did not get theatrical releases The Sheep Detectives. One recent Amazon MGM film we can use as example, however, is Project Hail Mary. The successful Ryan Gosling film was released in theaters on March 20, 2026 and, as of The Sheep Detectives release, is actually still in some theaters. It is, however, available to rent and stream at home via PVOD. On the other hand, the Mark Ruffalo vehicle Crime 101 was released in theaters in February and dropped on Prime Video in April.

So, whether it’s on PVOD or properly streamer, I’d give it about two months.

What to watch until that happens.

The human and sheep ensemble cast of The Sheep Detectives is kind of ridiculous. Let’s take a roll call:

  • Hugh Jackman
  • Nicholas Braun
  • Nicholas Galitzine
  • Molly Gordon
  • Hong Chau
  • Emma Thompson
  • Tosin Cole
  • Kobna Holdbrook-Smith
  • Conleth Hill
  • Mandeep Dhillon
  • Julia Louis-Dreyfus
  • Bryan Cranston
  • Chris O'Dowd
  • Regina Hall
  • Patrick Stewart
  • Bella Ramsey
  • Rhys Darby
  • Brett Goldstein

So if you’re trying to find something to watch while you wait, you should start by filling in your Hugh Jackman and Emma Thompson filmography gaps. (Sense and Sensibility also has a lot of sheep, but they don’t talk.) Molly Gordon’s movies like Oh, Hi! and Theater Camp? Whatever Nicholas Galitzine’s been up to between Red, White, and Royal Blue movies? Underrated comedies like Black Monday starring Regina Hall, or Our Flag Means Death starring Rhys Darby, or The Worst Witch starring Bella Ramsay? Are you caught up on Brett Goldstein’s series Shrinking? What about Mythic Quest, which featured The Sheep Detectives’ screenwriter Craig Mazin as a consulting producer, writer, and actor?

If you’re just looking for another cozy mystery to pass the time, I have some streaming recommendations for you as well. Check out the underrated Confess, Fletch starring Jon Hamm and Ayden Mayeri. There’s also a delightful recent-ish adaptation of Agatha Christie’s Ordeal by Innocence streaming on BritBox. Or treat yourself to a lady detective by finally getting into shows like Poker Face and Elsbeth. No matter what you choose, The Sheep Detectives will be here before you know it.
