Newly Minted Mr. Darcy, Jack Lowden, Responds to James Bond Short-List Rumors

We’re this close to finding out who the next James Bond is, and the short list? Callum Turner and Jack Lowden—the latter of whom is in the middle of a truly iconic run in Slow Horses, not to mention about to play Mr. Darcy in Netflix’s upcoming Pride & Prejudice adaptation.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “several sources” confirmed that final screen tests for the Denis Villeneuve-directed film were taking place in London last week, which…presumably means Bond has been chosen. Cut to Jack, who was asked about the rumors in a recent GQ interview.

“On this… It’s all very flattering,” he said. “It’s nice to be mentioned—for any role—and I’m just not really going to add to the noise.”

Speaking specifically of his Slow Horses costar Gary Oldman saying he hoped Jack would get the part, he said, “It’s very nice, and Gary’s a sweetheart—it’s particularly lovely, coming from someone like him. But I don’t really listen to it. As a young male actor, generally, the minute you’re not playing a zany artist type, the minute you’re in a suit, people fling it at you.”

Not exactly a denial! Meanwhile, Callum told THR over the summer, “I know as much as you do—really, I know as much as you do. I’ll tell you what’s so funny about the Bond thing: Even your best friends ask you, people text you that you haven’t spoken to for 10 years—and you know nothing! It’s such a weird thing of something happening and nothing happening at all. I genuinely know nothing. I just find it quite amusing.”

Honestly, I’d take either of them as Bond. Or both! Just happy to be here.
