Thunder on the Mountain, Alabama’s most spectacular and largest Fourth of July fireworks show, returns to Red Mountain on Saturday. Vulcan Park & Museum invites the community to experience this annual tradition as the city’s sky lights up in celebration of the nation’s 250th birthday.
At approximately 9 p.m., Pyro Shows of Alabama will launch the first of more than 2,500 fireworks shells and effects in a 20-minute show synchronized to a patriotic soundtrack.
The fireworks spectacular will also air on WBRC 6 News, after MLB on FOX allowing viewers throughout the metro area to take part in the celebration from home.
Presented by UAB Medicine, Thunder on the Mountain is organized by Vulcan Park Foundation with support from the City of Birmingham, the Greater Birmingham Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the City of Homewood.
Vulcan Park & Museum, Valley View Drive, and the surrounding streets will be closed to the public during the fireworks show. Thunder on the Mountain is visible from multiple vantage points across downtown Birmingham and Homewood.
Months of planning and $75,000 have gone into making the show a reality. Vulcan Park and Museum will be closed starting at 3 p.m. to ensure safety from fallout, but Cardona said the fireworks will be visible from anywhere in Birmingham where Vulcan can be seen.
