The new Spanish-language microdramas, “Trapped with the Enemy” (“Encerrada con el enemigo) and “Threatened Infidelity” (“Infidelidad amenazada”), were both shot in Los Angeles and are slated to bow in October this year. “We are excited to dive into the microdrama space for the first time and launching some of the first-ever U.S. produced vertical series for ViXMicrO,” said JK Media Group founder and CEO Sebastian Jimenez.
The two series are executive produced by Jimenez and Flavio Morales, who was an EP on HBO Max’s global hit “Like Water for Chocolate.” Sergio Jablon (“Súbete a mi moto”) serves as a writer on both series.
“We’ve assembled a tremendous team, both in front of and behind the camera, for these two series and we can’t wait to share them with the ViX audience,” said Jimenez.
“Trapped with the Enemy” is described as a “romantic thriller that unfolds in real time, within a single setting, where the suspense offers no respite and desire seeps through the cracks of fear.”
It follows Clara, who thought her nightmare was over when her abusive ex, Hugo, is sent to prison. But he’s escaped and is waiting for her in the parking garage after work. With her car sabotaged, no phone signal and a dead guard nearby, escape seems impossible — until Leo appears. Mysterious and eerily like Hugo, he could be her savior or her next threat. As the danger closes in, an unexpected connection sparks.
“Threatened Infidelity” is “a romantic comedy with teeth — where infidelity is the doorway into a twisty thriller of entanglements, betrayals and desire, in which no one is entirely innocent… but some are far guiltier than others.”
It centers on Daniela, who returns home to find her husband, Mario, secretly having an affair with their yoga instructor neighbor, Valentina. When a forgotten watch exposes him, Daniela finds an unexpected ally in Carlos, the handsome new neighbor. But Valentina’s affair is part of a darker scheme: she wants the building Daniela’s father designed — and she’ll eliminate anyone who stands in her way.
Fernanda Romero (“The Eye,” “The Burning Plain”) stars in both microdramas while Suanny Serpas (“Eye for an Eye”) and comedian Concrete also appear in “Threatened Infidelity.”
Liliana Arriaga (“La Chupitos”) makes a special appearance in “Trapped with the Enemy.”
Launched last year, ViXMicrO features the wildly popular short-form scripted series that are designed for vertical, mobile-first viewing.
According to research company Omdia, the format, which first originated in China, generated global revenues of $11 billion last year and is expected to hit $14 billion by the end of 2026, with Latin America emerging as a major market.
The format is particularly popular with the youth, with politicians turning to it to power up the youth vote, most recently by L.A. mayoral candidate Nithya Raman.
Madrid-based confab Iberseries & Platino Industria, running Sept. 29 – Oct 2, has programmed events around the fast-growing format.
Specializing in original series and films in both Spanish and English, JK Media recently launched “Ninel Conde: Sin Filtro” with ViX and produced the historic pay-per-view live broadcast of “Gloria Trevi: Live” from BMO Stadium, which was streamed with VEEPS.
The company is behind such award-winning titles as “Chiquis Sin Filtro,” “La Trevi Sin Filtro,” “Chiquis’ Foodie on the Go” and “Larrymania,” starring Larry Hernández, among others.
The company is set to produce additional PPV events across the globe, including upcoming events in Mexico, Colombia and Argentina.
