Kim Sejeong Returns With Remake Single ‘Solar System’
by Naman Ramachandran · VarietyKorean actor-singer Kim Sejeong has released her first single album “Solar System,” marking her return to music after a two-year hiatus.
The single is a remake of Sung Si Kyung’s 2011 track of the same name, representing Kim’s first musical release since her debut full-length album “Door” in 2023.
“Since I’m releasing a new song after a while, I worked very hard on this single in hopes of breaking the limit of my vocal skills,” Kim said. “I hope many people could resonate with it.”

For the remake, Kim collaborated with producer-musician Jukjae on the arrangement, reimagining the original’s melancholic tone.
“While attempting not to ruin the atmosphere of the original song, we tried to reinterpret the track’s signature sorrow to that of the monologue of an actor who has just begun telling their story,” Jukjae said. “How deep the meaning behind the lyrics and the breaths between the words still remains a mystery, and as such, the production process was a constant back-and-forth of ‘Is this the right tone? Is this how we progress here?’ Taking in how we attempted to express the sounds of the glistening planets with acoustic instruments, we hope you can feel as if you’re inhaling and exhaling in sync with Sejeong’s breaths.”
The release follows Kim’s starring role in MBC’s historical fantasy romance drama “Moon River,” which premiered Nov. 7.
The single launch kicks off Kim’s 2026 promotional activities, which include her fan concert tour “2026 Kim Sejeong Fan Concert: Tenth Letter.” The tour begins Jan. 10 in Seoul before traveling to Taipei, Melbourne, Sydney, Manila, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Yokohama.
Kim, who is managed by Jellyfish Entertainment, has established herself as one of South Korea’s most sought-after actors. She received the Asian Artist Award for best actor in both 2022 and 2023. Her notable television credits include lead roles in the hit webtoon adaptations “Business Proposal” and “The Uncanny Counter,” as well as “School 2017.”
She initially debuted as a K-pop idol in the 2016 project group I.O.I before joining the girl group gugudan. Kim has also appeared in stage productions including “Return: The Promise of the Day” and “Red Book.”
