by Elsa Keslassy · VarietyWhile Mike White is in France writing the fourth season of his hit anthology “The White Lotus,” his 2014 book “Past Lives” is being brought on stage by Sawyer Spielberg and Anne-Sophie de Villeroy in New York.
Spielberg and de Villeroy will do a live reading of White’s colorful book, directed by art curator Isabelle Le Normand at Maxim’s on Madison Avenue. His book “Past Lives,” published by Le Normand, features paintings by Sam and Ali Demke, depicting his 11 incarnations, including a British explorer vessel in the 1600s, a member of Spanish royalty in the 1700s, a Maori tribesman, a young woman in Morocco in middle of last century and a promiscuous Cuban waitress in the 1960’s, among others.

The live performance will be accompanied by a cycle of 12 original piano pieces by composer Corentin Apparailly and will be performed by pianist Héloïse Pieaud, founder of La Maison School of Music.
The book came from White’s spiritual journey undertaken with his friend Shirley MacLaine in 2009 at a past life regression center called The Light Institute in New Mexico where he spent four days. White then asked Sam and Ali Demke to make one painting for each life. All 11 paintings are hanging all the walls of his home in Santa Monica. White previously discussed his book and spiritual endeavor in a New York Times interview published in 2017.
Le Normand, who’s also interviewed White, told Variety the live performance will go to play at the Cherry Lane Theater in New York, as well as at select venues in Los Angeles.
Alongside writing the new season of “The While Lotus,” White has also started the casting process for the HBO show which will take place in the South of France and in Paris.
