Pallavi Sharda Leads French-Indian Co-Production ‘Stay’ From ‘Sir’ Director Rohena Gera (EXCLUSIVE)

Pallavi Sharda is starring in “Stay,” a French-Indian independent feature written and directed by Rohena Gera, currently shooting in France after wrapping its India leg.

Sharda plays Sailee, the daughter of a wealthy Indian family who moves to Paris following a divorce to escape the weight of social expectations. In Paris, she crosses paths with Léo — a delivery driver and dreamer played by rising French actor Julien De Saint-Jean — and the two forge an unlikely bond, one that begins to erode the cultural and social lines each believed they had left behind.

The film is produced by Alice Bloch for Marianne Prods. in co-production with France 2 Cinéma. Pre-sales have been secured with Canal+, Ciné+ OCS and France Télévisions. Dominique Colin serves as director of photography.

The role marks Sharda’s first in the French language, extending a screen career that spans Bollywood, Hollywood, British television and Australian productions. Her credits include the Oscar-nominated “Lion,” “Tom & Jerry,” “Wedding Season,” “The Twelve,” “Begum Jaan” and “Hawaizaada.” She sits on the Screen Australia board.

Gera’s previous feature, ”Sir,” premiered in Critics’ Week at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. It took the Gan Foundation Award and went on to find a wide audience on Netflix India. Gera also directed the 2013 documentary “What’s Love Got to Do With It?,” which screened at the Mumbai Film Festival. The new film is her first set in France, where she now lives.
